Fringe and Self-love
Hi my dudes! I hope you are all doing well! Today I am going to have a little talk about the Spring/Summer 18 trend, fringe, as well as body positivity.
I have had the shirt I am wearing in these photos for a couple years now but until the day I took these picture, I had never worn it; the tag was still on and everything. I did manage to snag this number for a whopping 5 bucks from Dynamite so I wasn’t too buggin’.
Self-love
I knew I wanted to write about fringe, especially since it is festival season and festivals are a great place to break out your fringe clothing, and this shirt was the only thing I had that I wanted to share. Something inside of me was telling me not to wear it because I don’t have a perfectly flat stomach. I didn’t want to wear this because it is a crop top and I don’t own anything high waisted enough to not show off my stomach in this outfit.
After I caught myself talking myself out of wearing this top, I thought about how many other people might be thinking similar things as me. With this in mind, I decided to go completely out of my comfort zone and not only wear this crop top, but pair it with a tight pencil skirt. I wanted to show other people that it doesn’t matter what you look like, you can wear WHATEVER you want. Remember that you are your harshest critic. Actually, as soon as I stepped out of my apartment I received a compliment on this look.
Body positivity is hard in an Instagram society. You see people all the time with the body you want to have and it is hard to deal with that. It is especially hard when everyone’s body is different. Some people are born naturally ‘skinny’ and wish to be able to put on some more weight while others are naturally ‘thicker’ and wish to lose weight. In reality though, everyone’s bodies are great just the way they are and it is important to realize that.
In this Instagram post, I touched on body positivity and talked about how I do want to change my body by getting stronger and healthier. I mention how I do not have the body I want but I am learning to love the body I have; this is what I think is one of the most important things. You must love your body the way it is in order to have a healthy relationship with it. You need to be able to love your body at any stage in your life because it can do great things. If you can’t love yourself than others can’t either.
Together, we must help each other learn to love themselves and each other. Everyday you must tell yourself you are beautiful, even if you don’t believe it, because one day you will. Tell someone you know they look beautiful or tell a stranger they look beautiful because you never know who needs to hear that.
Practice self-love and don’t be afraid of what other people may think. If you love yourself or you love an outfit or anything along those lines, than that is all that matters.
You are all beautiful inside and out. Please believe that.
Let us all embark on a journey of self-love.
Fringe Trend – SS18
Now, lets touch on the SS18 trend – fringe. Fringe was all over the runway this season. You saw this trend in brands like Alexander Wang, Dior, Calvin Klein, and more. Fringe is great because you can incorporate it into your look super easily. You can add a bag with some fringe, a skirt with some fringe or even a whole dress made out of fringe. Fringe adds movement to any look which really makes it great for festivals. Basically, there is a way everyone can include some fringe in their look.
The outfit I am wearing in this post includes a crop top from Dynamite (old), a faux leather pencil skirt from Dynamite (similar), a bag from Call It Spring (old), and a pair of shoes by Christian Siriano c/o Payless Shoesource which are actually on sale right now! I loved the way this outfit turned out. The colours, textures and pieces all worked so well together and I am excited to wear it again sometime.
That is all for this week! I hope you have a wonderful weekend! I will be back next week with a brand new blog post!
Also, be sure to check out my last post! It is one of my favourites! You can learn all about the 90s trend!
