I’m a 90s Chick
Hello my dudes and welcome back! Today I thought we should talk about the 90s trends that your parents did not let you wear but now, as a young adult, you can live that 90s fantasy! Tube tops, bandana tops, spaghetti straps, platforms, crop tops, slip dresses and mini anything are back with a vengeance. One store that is killing it right now with regards to all things 90s is Garage! I am loving like everything they have right now! Aritzia is also killing the slip game right now!
Bandana Tops
I don’t know about you but as soon as I see a bandana top I think of Survivor, and I am okay with that. Every time I wear my bandana top, I feel like a complete badass. See me wearing my bandana top from Garage in this Instagram post. They are super easy to style up! You can turn them quite girly if you wear them with a skirt, you can live your inner cowgirl fantasy with some jeans or you can pair it with some ripped tights and jean shorts and grunge it up a bit. These pieces are so easy to wear so I definitely recommend picking up one.
Spaghetti Straps
I am so thankful for this trend because the heatwave we are going through requires you to be wearing spaghetti straps or tube tops. Spaghetti straps are a great way to show off your décolletage without worrying about your shirt sliding down and there being an accidental nip slip. Take a dive into your closet and you might be surprised how many spaghetti straps you actually find.
Tube Tops
Oh tube tops, how I missed you. I am a HUGE fan of some collar bone action. I think there is something just so sexy (dare I say) about ones décolletage and tube tops are the best way to show it off. Tube tops, especially cropped ones, were probably your parents nightmare because they ‘showed to much skin’ or ‘weren’t school appropriate’ but at least you’re out of school now and can wear whatever you want!
Platforms
Do I even need to say anything about platforms? If you read one of my recent posts or know me at all, you will know that I LOVE platforms. If you want to read about my journey of finding the perfect platform sandals then click here. Also, those EXACT shoes are on sale now so click here to buy them before they are gone! TL;DR… platforms are GREAT, especially for people who want to gain some height without sacrificing comfort and/or don’t want to wear heels.
Crop Tops
I love a good crop top and high waisted bottoms combo. It’s nice to show a bit of the best parts of your tummy, even if you are ghostly white like me. If you are super confident in your body you can even rock a crop top and some low rise bottoms and really channel your inner 90s diva. Regardless of how you decide to wear this trend, it is definitely a trend everyone can wear!
Slip Dresses
Slip dresses are a trend I really want to get in on! I LOVE how slip dresses look and I especially love how you can dress them up or down. Slip on a pair of strapy heels and you are ready for a night out or chuck on a pair of trainers and you are ready for a day of shopping. Slip dresses are so versatile and I really hope I can find one I love. Aritzia has some really nice ones if you fancy taking a look.
Mini Everything
Don’t get me wrong, maxi and midi dresses are everywhere right now but a good mini never goes out of style. Especially for my other short girls out there, minis are super flattering as they help make your legs look longer – especially if you are wearing a high waisted mini skirt. You can fully embrace the 90s trend by wearing a mini spaghetti strapped dress or even a mini dress with no straps paired with some platforms, of course.
The 90s are influencing fashion so much right now and I couldn’t love it more. I will gladly channel my inner Cher Horowitz any day! The Spice Girls are also a great group of ladies to take 90s style inspiration from.
In these photos I am wearing a tube top from Garage that I love SOO MUCH, a skirt that I’ve had for forever, platform shoes from Payless – which I find are a bit difficult to walk in because the band comes up too high on my foot but these Steve Madden ones seem good – and my new favourite bag from Coach. I purchased this bag about a month ago at a Coach Outlet. Also my sunglasses are new from Call It Spring.
That is it for this week! I had a huge photoshoot this past weekend so I have a lot more content coming soon!
Have a great rest of your week,
x Kiana
