Trend Alert: Here Come The Plastics

I hope you are enjoying the spring weather that has FINALLY decided to make an appearance. I am so happy that it has warmed up that I do not even mind any rain we happen to have.
So, since we kinda missed the whole April showers bring May flowers thing and swapped it for April flurries bring… a sad Kiana… I’ve decided to make a post featuring my favourite new jacket, my clear plastic rain jacket from Zara.
I am loving this jacket! It is a super simple jacket but it is super cool because it is transparent. I have received so many compliments and comments on this piece. It definitely makes people stop and take a look.
This jacket is super on trend with plastic pieces being seen all over the Runways during SS 18 Fashion Month. Some of my favourite looks were by Balmain, Toga, and Calvin Klein. We can also thank celebs like Kim Kardashian West for starting this trend.
This trend is great for coats, especially when it is clear plastic, because it allows people to see your outfit; it isn’t hidden. This trend is also amazing because it can be incorporated very subtly, like in a raincoat, or it can be done pretty loudly, like thigh high plastic boots or a bright coloured plastic dress.
When styling this jacket, I wanted to go for a more laid back vibe. With this in mind, I decided to go with my favourite pair of dungarees from Simons that made their first appearance in my very first blog post. I teamed that with a loose fitted red tee from Zara, my black Dr. Martens, and a black Michael Kors bag. Since the main focus of this look is the raincoat, and one typically wears raincoats when it is raining, a more laid back vibe was needed indeed.

You can chuck on a pair of rainboots, some jeans and a tee shirt with this coat and be ready to go. You really can let the coat do the talking.
Other ways to add the plastic trend into your look is with boots, sandals, heels, skirts, hats and of course, other types of jackets. On the runway you even saw dresses which looked pretty cool but were definitely a bit more statement. Basically, depending on the look you’re going for, you can definitely give this trend a try.
