Trend Alert: Check Please

Sorry for the longer than anticipated break. Things have been pretty busy over the last few weeks and have finally wound down.
This week I am here to talk to you about all things checked. Checked pieces, specifically plaid, have been a staple in people’s wardrobe for years. Heck, the skirt featured in this post is my mom’s from back in the day. The moral to the story is almost everyone is able to find something in their wardrobe that is checked.
Some of my favourite checked pieces for Spring/Summer 18 are from Burberry, of course, Alexander McQueen, and Balenciaga. Check out their shows for some other outfit inspiration. A lot of the pieces in these collections could easily be transitioned into AW 18 so any pieces you decide to purchase will last you multiple seasons if you select the right colours.
Checks are an easy print to wear as it can be appropriate for almost every occasion depending on the silhouette. For a more casual day, you can throw a plaid button up shirt over a white tee and jeans paired with some Converse or Vans or for a nice summer’s day, you can wear a gingham off the shoulder shirt with some shorts and espadrilles. For a night out, you could rock a plaid slip dress or other style of your choosing. Finally, for the office, you could wear a plaid skirt, like the one I am wearing, and dress it up more or wear a check blazer. Another way to incorporate check into your look is in your accessories. You could pair a solid look with some check shoes or a bag. I’ve even seen some cute plaid earrings in the past. So basically, it is super easy to add checks into your style.
The look I created was girly but with a bit of edge. I teamed colours that lean quite feminine when worn alone – white and purple – and teamed it with all black accessories, including a pair of Dr. Martens. Unfortunately, most of this look is older since I wanted to show you that you can create a great look incorporating this trend without spending money. My outfit includes my mom’s old plaid skirt from Jacob, a white sweater from Stitches (yes, that is how old this is… I’ve probably had it for at least 7 years), maroon knee-high socks with stripes, my Michael Kors coat and bag. I will leave some similar option below if you wish to recreate this outfit.
