Trend Alert: Crayola Brights
Hi, my dudes!
Thank you so much for the support on my last post. It was extremely encouraging and I am beyond grateful.
This week I am going to talk all about one of my favourite SS 18 trends, Crayola Brights. Last week, I briefly touched on how to slowly add colour to your look. This week, I am going to dive more into this.
Crayola brights were all over the runway with some of my favourite looks being from Versace, Aquilano.Rimondi, and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Some looks were monochromatic, which I do love, but the ones that really inspired me were the looks that clashed a bunch of colours together.
One of the easiest ways to clash colours is to find a multi-coloured article of clothing, whether that be a top, bottom, or accessory, and pull colours from that to create the outfit. For example, if you had a multi-coloured striped jumper, you could pair it with pants that are the same colour as one of the stripes, a bag that is the colour of a different stripe, and/or shoes that are a different colour stripe.
Another way of doing it is to take two or more of the primary colours – blue, red, and yellow – like I did, and throw them all together in one outfit. All three primary colours clash very well together almost every single time so it is a pretty fail-safe way to start clashing colours if you are not one for patterns or graphics.
When I was last in Montréal, I did some serious shopping. Some of my purchases included this yellow skirt and jean crop from Forever 21 and my new favs, my Steve Madden Gaze booties in red. These boots are perfect for this transitional period between seasons because they are boots which are nice on chillier days but they also incorporate a SS 18 trend, Crayola brights. These booties are super comfortable and easy to walk in and surprisingly easy to style. I paired these new closet pieces with some oldies, but goodies – my Call It Spring bag from maybe three years ago, my navy Dynamite blazer from about 2 years ago and some navy tights. When the weather gets a bit warmer, I can totally see myself rocking this exact outfit without the blazer and tights though.
SKIRT – Forever 21 | CROP TOP – Forever 21 (similar) | BOOTIES – Steve Madden | BAG– Call it Spring | BLAZER – Dynamite (similar) | TIGHTS – ASOS (similar)
I was never one to clash colours but over the last couple months and especially after seeing looks from Fashion Week, it is my new favourite thing to do. It adds quirk and interest to every look. It allows you to take a simple silhouette and spice it up and make it fun.
I hope reading this post and seeing my outfit inspires you to try out this SS 18 trend and also helps you learn to love and embrace colour, especially during the wet and sometimes dreary months of March and April.
If you want to determine what other colours might look good together be sure to reference the colour wheel. Let me know if you want me to make a post diving into the magic that is the colour wheel on Twitter, Instagram, or down below.
Thank you so much for tuning in. I hope you enjoyed this blog post as much as I enjoyed writing it. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!
